European American History
They are the largest group of people in the nation and therefore, have mostly determined how Americans live today!
This homeschool sub-curriculum consists of 11 lessons and explores the motivations, challenges, and accomplishments of European Americans living in the United States.
We recommend that this sub-curriculum in European American history be taught after the lessons on Native American History. We also recommend that these lessons be taught one lesson per week in the order below.
Lessons
German Americans - Germans brought words over like pretzel and noodle and are the largest
group of European Americans!
Irish Americans - The first Irish had to arrive in "coffin ships" - find out what they are!
English Americans - Englishmen were first to meet Pocahontas!
Italian Americans - They were one of the first to reach the United States! Christopher Columbus?
He was Italian!
Polish Americans - We wouldnt have Haagen-Dazs ice cream if it werent for the Polish!
French Americans - Learn about the people who brought you the croissant!
Scottish Americans - Learn about the Hatfields and McCoys, two families that fought with each
other for ten years
it all started because of a pig!
Dutch Americans - Dont know who Sinterklaas is? Find out and be thankful they brought over a
childrens tradition!
Norwegian and Swedish Americans - The Norwegian brought you Charlie Brown cartoons and the Swedish brought you the first warship made of steel!
Russian Americans - They invented the TV and the helicopter!
Spanish Americans - They helped build the worlds deadliest weapon!
